For other funding, the University of Arizona provides access to database tools for use by university undergraduate and graduate students to search for external funding opportunities. These include federal, state, and local agencies in addition to private funding sources. More information can be found on the Arizona Research Gateway.


Carson Graduate Scholarships are designed to support outstanding UA graduate students and their research. The scholarships are awarded through a competitive process to current UA students who are committed to interdisciplinary research and communication. Grants of $5,000 per year are awarded to each of the Scholars to support their research.

InternalGraduateScholarship

The Climate & Society Graduate Fellows Program provides support for currently enrolled UA graduate students whose work is focused on the nexus of climate research and decision making. Up to four fellowships of $4,750 are awarded annually.

The Office of Undergrad Research maintains a database of opportunities within the College and provides information on identifying opportunities, selecting research interests, and connecting with faculty.

The Director’s Fund for Excellence awards are intended to provide critical support for short-term collaborative projects undertaken by UA faculty and graduate students in the Colleges of Fine Arts (CFA), Humanities (COH), or Social & Behavioral Sciences (SBS), especially projects that reflect an interdisciplinary orientation or a commitment to public outreach. Awards are made for amounts up to $1,500.

Current graduate and professional students in good academic standing who have a project proposal and a principal investigator or project advisor may apply for Research and Project Grant funding.

The Office of Fellowships and Community Engagement (OFCE) assists graduate students in searching and applying for funding outside of the UA. OFCE provides a monthly newsletter with current funding opportunities and advice on applying for funding.

Are you a junior or senior interested in being mentored by an experienced research professional? Do you want to learn how you can impact environmental policy or strengthen Indigenous governance? Do you want to get paid to learn and further your professional prospects after you graduate? If so, consider applying for the Udall Center's Mo's Policy Scholars Program. Participants during this 2.5 month mentorship program will earn a $1,000 stipend.

For students in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Institute offers grants of up to $500 for PhD and Master's research activities for a Master’s thesis, publishable manuscript, or a pilot project that will support a dissertation. Allowable expenses include research-related travel and expenses, subject payment, supplies, and small equipment.
