MAPUZGUN: Indigenous Land Reclamation and Language Revitalization in Wall Mapu (Chile)

When

3 to 4:30 p.m., March 28, 2023

The Office of Societal Impact and Native Peoples Technical Assistance Office is hosting an event on March 28th 2023 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm in ENR2 S210.

In recognition and support of the University of Arizona to the international/global movement of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, please join us to hear the voices and experiences of two Mapuche language revitalization activists and educators, Silvia Calfuqueo and Carolina Kürrüf, of their struggle to reclaim their land, language, and autonomy. They will also be joined by documentary filmmaker, Kelly Baur, their colleague and guide, to discuss the role of film and video in social justice movements. While the Mapuche language, Mapuzugun, is considered “definitely endangered” by UNESCO, Mapuche communities are fighting to maintain and revitalize their language.
