RISE Internship: Student Teacher at Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area

Hours/Week: 10 hours/ week 

Internship Date Range: November 3rd, 2025 – March 23, 2026 (20 weeks) 

Location: Hybrid: Remote/In-Classroom 

 

About the Resilience Internships and Student Experiences (RISE) Program  

The RISE Program is hosted by the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR) and provides undergraduate and graduate students with paid internships related to resilient environments and societies. RISE internships give students experience in workplace settings with an opportunity to grow their interpersonal skills and prepare them for careers after graduation.  

 

About the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area:  

The Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area advocates our region’s valuable heritage. As a non-regulatory designation made by Congress, the Santa Cruz Valley Heritage Alliance (the local non-profit which oversees management of the SCVNHA) takes a grassroots, community-focused approach to support historic preservation, natural resource conservation, recreation, heritage tourism, and educational projects. We preserve and advance the region’s living heritage so that landscapes, sites, livelihoods, traditions, values, and stories can stimulate our economy and build community. Knowledge and respect for this heritage contribute to a sense of place and improve the quality of our lives. 

 

Internship summary:  

This internship will be a 20-week long opportunity that provides a student with hands on experience in community engagement and supporting the mission of the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area. The intern will support current outreach initiatives by assisting and developing educational materials to conduct outreach, and interpretation that connect k-12 youth to the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area. 

 

Internship description:  

  • Intern will research & develop relationships with schools & educators that would be interested in learning more about the National Heritage Area, on behalf of the NHA. 

  • Intern will develop educational materials to use during interpretation of the National Heritage Area. 

  • Intern will help coordinate field trips with students in the Pima County & Santa Cruz County areas to connect youth the National Heritage Area.  

  • Intern will need to provide their own equipment (phone & laptop/computer). 

  • Intern will need their own vehicle for outreach. The university will provide mileage reimbursements. 

 

Compensation:  

The intern will be hired and paid by the University of Arizona. The pay rate is $19/hour. 

 

Credit Requirements: 

Applicants must be active U of A students enrolled in at least 6 credits. The intern will be hired as a U of A student employee. Please note: 

  • During the semester, student employees are limited to 25 hours/week (20 hours/week for international students) across ALL U of A positions.
