The mission of the Institute of the Environment is to advance innovative solutions to environmental challenges in Arizona and around the planet. We embrace the significance of our location in the desert Southwest and harness the collaborative expertise at the University of Arizona and among its partners to help societies, especially those in dry regions, make the best-informed decisions for a sustainable future. We invest in creative scholarship and cutting-edge research, promote the environmental enterprise of the University, and train students and faculty alike to convey their insights to the world.

Who We Are

We're a team of scientists, staff, and students specializing in climate adaptation, stewardship of the American West, and environmental arts and humanities. We care deeply about the world we live in, from our own backyard in the Sonoran Desert to the farthest reaches of the globe. We embrace opportunities to work with colleagues to enhance and promote strong cross-campus excellence in all things related to the environment. Through our work, we aim to ensure a bright future for our planet, its people, and its wildlife and natural resources.
