Community Water Coalition Coordinator

Job Description:

The Coordinator must be a self-motivator who can grow the CWC through fundraising, networking, and policy advocacy. The Coordinator will work to advance the CWC mission and goals by working with the CWC Advisory Committee and other CWC members.  

This is a half-time position (20 hours/week) with the possibility to grow the position to full-time through successful fundraising.

Regular Duties

CWC Coordination and Communications

  • Organize monthly Advisory Committee and subcommittee meetings in collaboration with members of the CWC

  • Organize quarterly meetings for the benefit of all CWC member organizations

  • Organize and write a monthly bulletin to update CWC members and business affiliates about CWC projects and issues along with related advocacy opportunities in the Tucson region and lower Santa Cruz watershed

  • Maintain & update the CWC website

  • Coordinate CWC's efforts in drafting and proposing water policy recommendations

  • Develop a clear organizational structure and communication process

    • Effectively communicate the structure and work of the CWC to members and partners

    • Develop and maintain a CWC calendar to organize organizational related events

    • Assist in finalizing bylaws for the CWC
  • Coordinate educational outreach programs, events, and public campaigns to promote water for the environment

  • Develop media strategies, develop press releases and publicly represent the CWC

  • Develop annual budget and monthly financial reports, including cost flow, in coordination with the Treasurer


  • Track key proposals associated with the City of Tucson’s adopted water policy. Coordinate CWC's written response to any water policy initiatives, emphasizing CWC's mission  

  • Develop constructive relationships and regular communications with elected officials, agency reps, and affected water stakeholders

    • Monitor local jurisdiction and local water provider meeting agendas

  • Participate in the State Water Coalition focused on policy in support of water for the environment

  • Stay up-to-date on the latest community water conservation programs and demonstration projects

Potential Additional Duties

  • Recruit and manage one or more interns and develop an internship program

  • Organize community engagement events to recruit new members and build interest in advocacy issues with the public

Job Requirements:

  • A passion for water policies that sustain healthy ecosystems and ability to advocate for these goals

  • Knowledgeable in environmental issues and water policy issues

  • Experience facilitating community meetings and groups

  • Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills

  • Minimum one years’ experience in advocacy work and fundraising

  • Ability to work independently and work well in a team setting

  • Familiarity with Google docs, Excel, Quickbooks and Word                                   

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with coalitions

  • Experience and knowledge of water policy, green infrastructure, riparian restoration, environmental flows, and/or watershed planning

  • College degree and advanced degree in environmental, planning, or natural resources field

  • Experience in Drupal website content management


This is a half-time hourly position based in Tucson, Arizona. The schedule will be somewhat variable based on events and project needs. Hourly rate $18-22, and will be an annual contract position financed through the (CWC Member) Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection.
