American Ornithological Society

Opportunity Description:

The American Ornithological Society (AOS) is holding its 136th annual meeting from April 9-14, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona.  It will be an exciting meeting at a lovely time of year for birding in the Southwest. The meeting theme is “Celebrating connections: birds without borders.” As you know, successful meetings require the work and dedication of many member volunteers. The local committee is currently looking for someone to coordinate student volunteers at the meeting.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work as part of a team in this endeavor and be a member of the local committee. Student volunteers will be recruited by AOS through outreach and registration, and scheduling of all volunteers will be handled by our professional meeting organizer (PMO).  The Volunteer Coordinator will train and oversee volunteers assigned to the following duties at the meeting: working the registration desk, manning the speaker presentation practice room, answering general questions, assisting at the 5-km run, general help (the PMO will train and oversee the student volunteers monitoring the speaker rooms and AV equipment). The Volunteer Coordinator will preferably be on-site during the entire meeting.
