Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
Position Title and Department: Garden Volunteer, Botany
Reports to (name & title): Mark Fleming, Curator of Botany
Overview of position: Volunteers in this position assist Botany staff with the development of the collection and the maintenance of Museum landscapes.
Primary Specific Tasks:
1. Hand watering
3. Develop gardens through planting, moving rock and soil, digging, and laying irrigation lines.
4. Weeding and cleaning gardens.
Day(s) of the week volunteer(s) work in this position: Monday - Friday
Hours: 4 hours between 7:15am-4:00pm
Duration (# of months): 1 day a week for 7 months
Number of individuals needed: 1
Applicants must be able to perform manual labor, including using pick, shovel, wheelbarrow; with the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.; to do work on the knees, and able to stoop, bend, and squat. Volunteers must be willing to work in summer heat and winter cold. Plant growing experience preferred and a background/experience with irrigation systems, gardening is also preferred.
