Eye on the Environment
Every year the Institute of the Environment recognizes photography that highlights the beauty, diversity, and unique qualities of our natural surroundings and offers visual commentary on environmental issues. This year, we opened two NEW categories for entry: Videography and Instagram!
Check out this year's winners!
Photographic and videography entries were open to University of Arizona faculty, staff, and students. Instagram entries were open to all legal U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old.
Theme: Environment and Social Justice
Use your lens to capture and convey the challenges facing society in a world at risk from environmental change and loss of natural diversity. How can we help those most vulnerable to environmental change? How can we make a more sustainable Earth—for everyone?
The contest opened at 12:01am on Sunday, March 1, 2015, and closed at 11:59pm on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. We will announce winners and award prizes no later than May 10, 2015.
The judging panel consisted of professional photographers, scientists, and/or IE staff members. We will announce the winners and award prizes no later than May 10, 2015.
The winning photos will be displayed at various locations across the UA campus, including IE’s new offices in the ENR2 building for the 2015-2016 academic year. Video winners will be featured on the Institute of the Environment’s website and the UA Environment and Sustainability Portal website.
ENR2, currently under construction near 6th Street and Park Avenue, was designed to evoke the experience of being in a desert slot canyon. The UA aims to achieve LEED Platinum certification for ENR2 via technologically innovative methods to reduce energy consumption, decrease water use, and increase the useful life of the building components and spaces.
