The mission of the Institute of the Environment is to advance innovative solutions to environmental challenges in Arizona and around the planet. We embrace the significance of our location in the desert Southwest and harness the collaborative expertise at the University of Arizona and among its partners to help societies, especially those in dry regions, make the best-informed decisions for a sustainable future. We invest in creative scholarship and cutting-edge research, promote the environmental enterprise of the University, and train students and faculty alike to convey their insights to the world.
We believe the best outcomes and responses to a changing world derive from a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to research.
We believe that science and research excellence matters, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of scientific integrity. We are committed to supporting the potential of faculty, staff, and students to discover innovative, relevant, and evidence-based solutions.
We believe that cultural and intellectual diversity enhance the academic process and decision making for a more sustainable future.
We recognize the importance of collaborating with and serving communities to produce accessible and useful knowledge.
The people of Arizona, the United States, and countries around the globe will enjoy economic prosperity, health, and a reliable supply of food, water, and energy while protecting our planet’s natural systems and biodiversity.
