In the past 30 days, most of New Mexico and much of central Arizona recorded well above-average precipitation (Fig. 1). Climatologically, this is one of the drier times of year for the Southwest, so any substantive precipitation during this timeframe is generally unexpected but welcome, as it helps tamp down fire risk.

A project to divest the UA campus from fossil fuels
A framework was constructed to support more than 1,100 photovoltaic electricity panels, which will be placed above the garage's 25,000-square-foot top level. It is the first of a series of solar panel and solar water-heating unit installations to take place on campus in 2009.
This is a list of questions for students to ask apartment complexes as they tour to find out a more sustainable place to live. Additionally, there are tips for sustainable living. The guidebook is distributed to approximately 15,000 UA students per annum.
This is a recommendation based on information given by apartment complexes and judged by Residence Life Sustainability. It only asserts basic sustainable factors (recycling, low flow faucets, etc.)
This is an event on the mall that works to educate students about living sustainably. It has carnival like games and educational opportunities focusing on waste, water, and energy reduction.
The Life Science Student Association (LSSA) currently has two greenhouses on campus. Both are located on the 6th floor of the 6th street garage. LSSA uses one greenhouse for the propagation and production of their house plants, desert plants and tropical plants. LSSA's other greenhouse is a showcase of the many capabilities of controlled environment agriculture. This greenhouse is designed to help further LSSA's education goals, and is open to the public.

A new documentary provides insight into how ancient climate affected human evolution. The video, available on YouTube, focuses on the research conducted by the University of Arizona-led Hominin Sites and Paleolakes Drilling Project, an international collaboration of geologists, anthropologists and climate scientists.
UA Distinguished Professor of Geosciences Andrew Cohen and his colleagues have been studying the connections between climate and human evolution in Africa’s Rift Valley for more than a decade.
