Mining Engineering: Mine Operations

Degree or Minor:
Undergraduate Degree
Green Concentration:
No
UA College:
Engineering
Degree Type:
BS in Mining Engineering
Degree/Minor Description:

Mining engineers plan, develop, and operate mines, as well as other engineering excavations with an emphasis put on engineering excavations to have minimal environmental effects. They engineer the individual systems within a mining operation or large-earth-engineering projects. They learn how to determine the economic worth of a mineral deposit and how rock behaves when excavated. They learn how to excavate, transport, and process minerals. In addition, students use mining software to design, plan, and supervise mines. The mine operations track prepares students to design, build, and operate surface and underground mines, work in mine finance, and work with mine information and production technology. While minors are not required for engineering majors, many students in this track minor in mathematics or geology.
