Standard time is measured on atomic clocks, providing a technical basis for global transactions. Might local ecology be a more meaningful timekeeper? Might the natural cycles of desert plants and animals encourage us to nurture our environment and the relationships that matter most? In this workshop on Tumamoc Hill, artist Jonathon Keats will guide participants through the process of making an annual desert calendar based on careful observation and documentation of liminal phenomena.

This event is the first in a series of art-and-environment workshops organized in partnership with Art and Visual Culture Education Professor Carissa DiCindio, and presented in collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Fine Arts and the Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill. Funding is provided by the Technology Research Initiative Fund/Water, Environmental, and Energy Solutions Initiative.
