Position Title and Department: Nursery volunteer

 

Reports to (name & title): Mark Fleming, Curator of Botany

 

Overview of position (1 sentence): Assist in the care of several plant propagation locations and nursery stock.

 

Primary Specific Tasks:

 

1. Watering

2. Weeding

3. General assistance to Nursery Horticulturists

 

Day(s) of week volunteer(s) work in this position: 1 day/week, Monday through Thursday

 

Hours: 7-8 am start, half day.

 

Duration (specify period or minimum # of months): all year

 

Number of individuals in this position: 1

 

 

Physical requirements: Able to do manual labor, including using pick, shovel, wheelbarrow. Able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Able to do work on the knees, and able to stoop, bend, and squat. Willing to work in summer heat and winter cold.

 

Skills/knowledge required: Plant growing experience.

 

Background/Experience desired: Irrigation systems, gardening.
