Earth Science Discovery (focus on the Critical Zone)

Earth Science Discovery Program Description:

The Earth Science Discovery (ESD) program will engage students from 3rd through 6th grades with the wonders of Critical Zone science through a series of hands-on activities.  Field trip groups from regional schools arrive at Flandrau Science Center, then separate into several smaller groups of students that rotate around 5 different activity stations (Rock, Water, Soil, Microbes, Critical Zone) over a two hour period to learn about earth science in the Critical Zone.

 

Job Title:

Instructional Specialist, ESD

 

Job Description:

Students who work as Instructional Specialists for ESD will teach elementary school students about Critical Zone science and dynamic earth systems using hands-on educational activities that convey basic earth science processes.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A basic knowledge of earth science and enthusiasm for engaging kids with science. Specialists will be trained to deliver the education activities and connect with youth.

 

Details:

Paid training starts late August 2017. Discovery program starts February 2017. Students will work 3 hours, twice a week, 9-12, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  $10/hr pay.​
