Chemical engineers are the link between science, math, environmental and societal needs. They design processes for new materials, fuels, and consumer goods. Chemical engineers are interested in how chemicals react, how products are separated and purified, how fuels and energy are transported, and how a process can be made safe and economical. They focus on understanding the environment and chemical principles to create more efficient systems and products that can help lessen the impact on the environment overall.

Research Opportunities: 

Nano Fabrication and Processing Center: The Nano Fabrication Center is a research center dedicated to studies involving nanofabrication and manufacturing technology. The center involves research studies in several subjects such as semiconductors, bioengineering, microelectromechanical systems, optics, and thermoelectrics. 

Rich Lab Soil, Water and Environmental Science Microbial Ecology Lab: The Rich Lab, also known as SWES-MEL, is a lab that does research on microorganisms and their impact on biogeochemistry and global change. 

Machining and Welding Center: WMC is a research facility dedicated to providing expertise for research instrument fabrication. It supports and enhances the mission of the University of Arizona by providing prototype machining, designing, fabrication, welding, cryogenic products, consultation, instructional support and community outreach programs.

Arizona Materials Lab: AML is a world-class materials research laboratory that has multiple research facilities. This lab studies glass materials, novel materials chemistry, advanced ceramics, and composites. The mission of the AML is to provide Materials Science Engineering faculty, postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate students a collaborative and synergistic environment in which to conduct their research.

SRC Engineering Research Center: The SRC Engineering Research Center develops new and effective technology to reduce the environmental impact of semiconductor manufacturing.

BIO5 Institute: The BIO5 Institute is at the leading edge of life sciences research, bringing together researchers from agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, basic science, and engineering. The main goal of BIO5 is to find bold solutions to complex, biology-based challenges affecting humanity.
