Mathematics is a quantitative language that can help describe processes within ecosystems, biological populations, and earth systems. Students will gain a basic understanding of mathematical modeling and statistical analysis, which can be critical to analyzing and understanding environmental conditions.
Arizona Center for Mathematical Sciences: ACMS focuses on providing an environment for research and learning in the Mathematical Sciences. ACMS does research on modeling, understanding, and applicability of nonlinear processes in optics, fluids, neural networks and random distributed systems.
Arizona Statistics Consulting Laboratory: The StatLab is a research facility that designs studies which are statistically efficient and scientifically practical. Research includes data analysis, practical interpretation of the results and development of new statistical methods to address problems in science and medicine.
Biosphere 2: Biosphere 2 is owned by the University of Arizona and is an Earth systems science research facility that focuses on the Earth, its living systems, and sustainability. The facility is located in northern Tucson and serves as a center for research, outreach, and teaching.
