Degree/Minor Description: 

Through the Agricultural Tech Management and Education major students take courses in basic sciences, technical agriculture, teaching principles and techniques, and communication. Students learn how to communicate about issues in agriculture and learn about technologies and techniques that are working to improve the efficiency of agricultural practices. Students will also gain hands-on experience with welding, woodworking, electrical wiring, equipment operation and irrigation. Those who focus in Field Crop Production and Management will learn how to prepare fields, maintain them, and interact with the natural environment to obtain satisfactory yields in sustainable ways.

Research Opportunities: 

Campus Agricultural Center: The CAC is a 160 acre research, teaching, and extension facility, which supports those functions of the eleven College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) departments. It is currently home to over 70 different multidisciplinary research studies in the fields, laboratories, and greenhouses.

Yuma Agricultural Center: The YAC has two research facilities, one in Yuma and another in Mesa. These facilities include about 200-300 acres of farmland for a diversified range of crops, including cotton, grains, and vegetables. The YAC focuses on research in plant physiology, crop production, insect biology, food safety and several other topics.

Environmental Research Laboratory: The ERL is a research facility that is part of the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science. It is used to improve the health, welfare and living standards of communities in desert areas through the application of appropriate and sustainable technologies. 

Biosphere 2: Biosphere 2 is owned by the University of Arizona and is an Earth systems science research facility that focuses on the Earth, its living systems, and sustainability. The facility is located in northern Tucson and serves as a center for research, outreach, and teaching. 

BIO5 Institute: The BIO5 Institute is at the leading edge of life sciences research, bringing together researchers from agriculture, medicine, pharmacy, basic science, and engineering. The main goal of BIO5 is to find bold solutions to complex, biology-based challenges affecting humanity.
