FOCUS AREAS

IE promotes and supports university-wide excellence in all aspects of the environment and links hundreds of faculty from across the UA campus in a network of collaborative and interdisciplinary research, events, outreach, and teaching. Internally, our researchers are all about providing options and solutions to deal with the biggest challenges of the 21st century, with a focus on climate and climate change adaptation, stewardship, and environmental awareness through the arts.

Climate

Climate

We study the science of climate. We invest in research that explores the forces behind the North American monsoon, drought, wildfire, and volatile weather, and how they are influenced by climate change. We also partner with a range of stakeholders and communities to help them adapt to a changing climate and safeguard lives, livelihoods, property, human health, and the planet’s natural rhythms and cultural treasures.

Stewardship

Stewardship of the West

Celebrated for its vast stretches of natural beauty, wild rivers, iconic landscapes, and old-growth forests, the western United States is also home to some of our country’s most critical environmental issues, including drought, wildfire, urban sprawl, and natural and cultural resource management. Through our in-house scientists and investments in research, IE is sharing and exploring solutions that will help us better protect the land and the people, plants, and animals it supports.
